What to Expect

Starting therapy can be intimidating, so here is an overview of what to expect in a consult, an initial session, and while we work together.

Initial Consult - 20 Minutes

This free 20 minute consultation is a great way for us to go over what support you're looking for, to ask me any questions you may have about the therapy process, and to make sure myself and my services are a good fit for you. This consult is either via video or telephone call; whatever is more comfortable for you. There's no obligation to work with me after this consult - take some time and think about it - and I’ll be here when you’re ready.

Intake Appointment - 60 minutes

In this first 60 minute intake appointment I will ask you some details about your personal history, mental health history, and any current issues you’d like to address, so I can better understand who you are and how I can help. We will then discuss your needs and goals and I will explain what I think would be an effective therapy plan. Prior to the intake appointment I will send you an intake questionnaire and a consent form that we will also go over together in your first appointment.

While we work together - 50 minute sessions

I believe therapy should be a collaborative process. In each of our 50 minute therapy sessions I will generally be prepared with some ideas of things we can work on. However, if there's something else you would like to address in a therapy session, that will become the priority for that session. Before starting any type of structured therapy, I will always explain why I feel like it would be a beneficial process for you, and will explain what it will look like in our sessions. At any point you are welcome to ask any questions about what we are doing and stop therapy. If you discover you do not feel we are a good fit, I will happily provide you with a referral.

Why Virtual?

Currently, all therapy services are being provided virtually. We meet through the use of a video platform and all you need is a quiet, comfortable space. Many studies have shown that virtual therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. I will send you a video link prior to our first session and all you need to do is bookmark it and we will always meet in the same place. Many clients actually prefer virtual therapy so they do not have to worry about rushing, finding parking, and they can meet from the comfort of their own home.
